JT Lawson:
I’m doing phenomenal. Doing really good.

Now what I’m going to do on today’s broadcast is, so many of our wonderful listeners, what they do is they go on to Google, they do a search for Tulsa dog training, and then what they do is they kind of go, “Uh-oh, wow, there’s a lot of different competitors. There’s a lot of different options there.” So we’re going to do a rapid fire. I’m going to throw out kind of a keyword search result, and you tell me what that means and how that relates to our listeners, okay?
So here we go.
Board and train. What is board and train, and how does that relate to our listeners?
JT Lawson:
Yeah. So how that relates is that’s basically boarding school where the dog comes and stays with us from anywhere from one to three weeks. And we’re taking care of all the homework for you. That way you don’t have to do any of it, and the dogs are going to come home fully trained.
Speaker 1:
People, a lot of times, they get confused. They say, “What are these pet vacations, these pet resorts?” Is a pet resort something that you guys offer or not? Or what are these pet resorts?
JT Lawson:
Yeah, so we are not a pet resort. So we don’t have waterfalls or ball pits or water parks for the dogs and stuff. It’s a training facility. They’re there to train and get better and learn the commands. So we don’t just do the overnight stay and any of that stuff. We’re doing the training. That’s what we’re doing.
Speaker 1:
Dog training classes. How are dog training classes different than a board and train scenario?
JT Lawson:
Yeah. So classes are where … Typically when people refer to classes, they refer to group class where you’re coming to a class and there’s many other dogs, and there’s typically one or two trainers and you’re working in a group environment, in a group setting.
For us, we offer that at the end for free for life. So you get two classes a week no matter what you do with us. But we don’t let people just start out with that because the distraction level is too high. It’s not a fair learning environment for the dog. There’s too much going on. So we offer it, but that’s what we offer at the end for free for life. You can’t just do classes with us.
Speaker 1:
Now, what is Tulsa off leash training? What is that all about, off leash training? What does that concept mean?
JT Lawson:
Yeah, so what it means is … So a lot of trainers, they do on leash training, and what that means is you have to have the leash for your dog to listen. So if you’re not attached to your dog, the dog’s not going to listen to you.
From my perspective, that’s pretty pointless. So everything we do is off leash. All of our commands are all completely off leash. In Tulsa, you’re allowed to have your dog off leash. They just have to be under reasonable control. And any of the dogs we train in Tulsa are for sure under reasonable control.
Speaker 1:
Now, there are some services out there that really lay down some pretty heavy-handed, pretty high pressure sales techniques. You guys choose to do the first lesson for 50 cents, and then you let people name their price. And you even have scholarship pricing to work with there.
How does your sales approach differ from that of a high pressure dog training service? Because I know there are services that do the high pressure sales pitch and some that don’t. How does your approach to sales differ from the high pressure dog training companies?
JT Lawson:
Yeah. So with us, we basically want to just wow you so much that we don’t have to sell you on it. So by the time we are at the end of our first lesson, my goal is for you to be so wowed after looking at our reviews, after looking at our client testimonials, hearing from real people about real results we gave them with our Tulsa dog training. And then after, we’re going to go over where we’re going to get you with all of that.
So at the end of the lesson, that 50 cent first lesson, we’re not going to try to upsell you, we’re not going to try to hard close you, we’re not going to be like, “Hey, what’s your dog’s life worth to you? Because if your dog doesn’t listen, then it’s going to die”, type stuff. We don’t do any of that.
Speaker 1:
Oh, come on. There’s no dog trainers that use that move. Are there?
JT Lawson:
Yeah. Yeah. There’s dog trainers in Tulsa … I won’t name names, but there’s dog trainers in Tulsa that use that move. Basically, “What’s your dog’s life worth to you?”
And then also, they’re not allowed to leave until there’s either a hard yes or a hard no that you’re signing up for training. So they won’t allow you to say, “Hey, I got to talk to my wife. Hey, I got to talk to my husband. Hey, I got to think about it.” There’s none of that. It’s either a yes or no. You’re in or out right then and there.
Speaker 1:
Wow. Okay.
