Speaker 1:
All right. Welcome back to the Make Your Dog Epic Dog Training podcast. We’re joined here with one of Tulsa’s leading experts in the dog training field, perhaps the highest rated and most reviewed dog trainer in Oklahoma, JT Lawson, welcome on to the podcast, sir. How are you?
JT Lawson:
I’m doing phenomenal. Thanks for having me.
Speaker 1:
Now, right there on makeyourdogepic.com, makeyourdogepic.com you are providing an incredible offer. You’re telling people you’ll train their first dog for 50 cents and you’re willing to match anybody’s price. Walk us through the strategy behind that, why you run your business that way.
JT Lawson:
Yeah, so we do that because I want people to try it before they buy it, so I want anyone to be able to make sure that we’re a good fit for them. And then why we’re match anyone’s price is because we don’t want anyone to miss out because of funds. So we think we do the best job in Tulsa or even in the United States, and that’s why we offer a money-back guarantee. And so that’s why we do that. And then we give people a option to name their price if they can’t afford it, and we have scholarship options and stuff like that available.
Speaker 1:
Now as far as these services you provide, you have board and train, you have puppy classes, you have group classes, you have aggressive dog training, and you have private lessons as well. So let’s just go through those one by one here. First off here, let’s talk about the group classes. What is the group dog training class?
JT Lawson:
Yeah, so that’s where there’s multiple other dogs there. It’s a environment where there’s lots of distractions, so it’s really good for dogs to be around. And we don’t let people just do group class, but they can do any of our other options. And then group class is included for free no matter what. That way we’ll be there for you for the rest of the dog’s life. So you’ll get two free classes a week, Thursday nights and Saturday mornings. We can work on old stuff or learn new stuff or whatever because we’re going to be there forever.
Speaker 1:
Now, other services that you guys provide here, you provide aggressive dog training, aggressive dog training, and private lessons. Tell us about the aggressive dog training and the private lessons that you provide.
JT Lawson:
Yeah, so aggressive dog training is what sounds, so if you’re dealing with any dogs that are growling or barking or have fence fighting or they’re reactive on the leash or they’re barking when the mailman walks by or whatever it is their aggression issues are, we’ll work on that and we’ll work on fixing them. And then also, the one-on-one training, that’s where we’ll come out and it’s half dog training, half human training. So we’re putting the foundation in the dog, but then we’re training you to train the dog. So it’s kind of half human training, half dog training.
Speaker 1:
Half human training, half dog training. We continue here, board and train. What is board and train? When someone’s looking up Tulsa dog training and they find board and train as an option, what does that mean?
JT Lawson:
Yeah, so that means the dog would come and stay with us and we’re taking care of all the homework. So the dog would stay with us anywhere from one to three weeks. It just depends on your goals and how advanced you’re wanting the dog. And then after that, we’re bringing the dog home and we’re going over when to use commands, how to use commands, make sure everyone’s on the same page, but you’re basically sending us the dog and then we’ll bring you back the same dog. But now it listens, so still has all of his personality, still a super happy and fun dog. So our goal is never obedience that defeats the personality. So that’s what we’re doing with the board and trains that they come and stay with us. And we do all the homework and then we’ll bring you back a dog that listens.
Speaker 1:
No, I think it’s really important for people to understand that you actually own and operate, you manage the Tulsa dog training location. So talk to us about that. What kind of level of quality control do you have in place and why are you so obsessed with quality control at Make Your Dog Epic Tulsa?
JT Lawson:
Yeah, so we’re super paranoid about giving the overall best quality of training and experience. So constantly, our whole goal is to over-deliver. That’s all we want to do is wow the customers every single time. So we want to go above and beyond on everything. So from being the highest rated in most of your dog training program to having testimonials that you can watch from real people to giving money-back guarantee to offering group class forever, for having two different options of border training and group classes. One of the things that sounds simple but a lot of people don’t do is we’ll call you back and we’ll actually get in contact with you, which a lot of people won’t, and we’re not going to try to upsell or hard sell or hard closure or do any weird sales tactics. We’re here just to help you and your dog get to your goals and give your dog more freedom because a dog that listens gets more freedom and then you have happier dogs and happier clients.
Speaker 1:
So is there any kind of breed of dog that you would prefer to train? I mean, do you prefer to train a Chihuahua, Bullmastiff, half-breed? Is that what you prefer? Or tell us about the preferred breeds you like to work with?
JT Lawson:
Yeah, so we work with a ton of breeds, there’s not really any ones we won’t work with. We work with anything from Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Bulldogs, Labrador Retrievers, French Bulldogs, Border Collies, Poodles, Siberian Huskies, Tibetan Mastiffs, St. Bernards, we train all of them. We work with all of them. I don’t necessarily have a favorite. I would say it really just more depends on the individual dogs. So that’s kind of what we’re training.
Speaker 1:
And again, people are going to makeyourdogepic.com, makeyourdogepic.com, and they’re finding the Tulsa dog training services you provide, and they’re always blown away that you’re doing the first lesson for 50 cents and then you’re willing to match and or beat any competitor’s price. Walk us through that. How does that work?
JT Lawson:
Yeah, so we’ll match anyone’s price. So if you find somebody that’s offering similar services, we will match that price because we don’t want anyone to miss out because of funds. So we also have scholarships and stuff available. One of the biggest things is dogs get put down or re-homed or euthanized for behavioral issues. That’s the number one reason why. So we just want to help that not happen one dog at a time.
Speaker 1:
Do you not offer dog taxidermy services?
JT Lawson:
We do not offer that. That is correct. No taxidermy services for dogs.
Speaker 1:
Have you ever run into someone who has taxidermied a dog before?
JT Lawson:
I have heard of it. I haven’t personally seen it. Because now it’s the thing where you can clone your dog. So what they’ll do is they’ll taxidermy it once it dies and they’ll clone it and they’ll basically have an exact replica of the dog.
Speaker 1:
Are you being serious?
JT Lawson:
Yeah. No, cloning dogs is a thing now. So you can have the exact same dog if you’re willing to pay for it.
Speaker 1:
Come on. Are you being serious?
JT Lawson:
I’m being super serious, so I don’t know so much of how many people taxidermy their dogs, but I do know people clone their dogs-
Speaker 1:
Oh, come on.
JT Lawson:
More and more frequently. So that’s an actual thing. Yeah.
Speaker 1:
Unbelievable. Okay. Again, folks, to learn more about all things related to Tulsa dog training, go to makeyourdogepic.com. That’s makeyourdogepic.com. JT Lawson, we really do appreciate your time, and as we like to say here on the Make Your Dog Epic podcast, we’ll talk to you in five minutes.
Is your dog and furry friend holding you hostage? Will your dog not stop pulling on its leash and eating your sausage? Who wrote that? Well, I don’t mean to brag, but I actually wrote it and it rhymes. People dig it like a dog. You get it? Okay, so I’m just going to keep reading. Will your dog not stop jumping on you or pooping in your house like you’re on the set of Jumanji or living in a zoo? It only took me two weeks to write that line while sitting at the base of a waterfall while gazing upon my epic dog.
The dog that once held me hostage was now my best friend. It’s so good. The dog that would never listen was now all ears. It’s so good. I just want to cry. Pull yourself together, man. Stop your dog from biting Pam, your yoga pants wearing neighbor as she just attempts to speed walk in peace. Stop your dog from eating your wife’s wedding dress and peeing in your closet on top of your Christmas gifts. Stop the madness and makeyourdogepic.com. It’s the same dog, but now it’s all ears. Wow. Mancar, you are a talented vocal artist. Well, well… I can sense you. I can feel the passion. It’s contagious. Well, my friend, I am passionate about the product. I once went 60 days without sleeping. Really? My wife’s wedding dress got eaten and my neighbor Pam was bitten by my dog. Oh, man. My quality of life was an all time low. I didn’t invite people over to my home for months because of the new dog. And I always smelled like urine. You do still smell a little bit like dog urine.
Well, I made my dog epic. I was hostage. And that’s where the passion comes from. You’ve got to believe in your product and you’ve got to project from the diaphragm. The diaphragm. Got to bend your knees. Bend the knees, bend the knees. Drink ginger. Drink the ginger. You’ve got to ingest apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar. With a dog bone, you want chew on the dog bone before them. Hard pass. Recording so that you can emulate the dog. And you should listen to Atomic Dog. I can do that. But you’re not a dog, but you want to just chew on the bone, the oversized bone, not the regular size bone. Not going to chew on the bone.
