Tulsa Dog Training Podcast | Where Is the Ideal & Best Location to Train a Dog?

Show Transcript

Speaker 1:
All right, folks. Welcome back to the Make Your Dog Epic Tulsa podcast. Here we focus on this, the Make Your Dog Epic podcast, on teaching you how to train your dog, dog training in Tulsa. That’s what we do. We’re obsessed with it. We love dogs, we love training dogs, and that’s what we’re all about here.

So the question we have on today’s Make Your Dog Epic podcast is where’s the ideal and best location to train your Tulsa dog? Again, where is the ideal and best location to train a dog? And we’re joined here by Tulsa dog training expert, JT Lawson. Welcome back onto the show. How are you, sir?

JT Lawson:
I’m doing phenomenal. I’m doing really good.

So yeah, you can train your dog multiple places, but basically, you want to think of it as like a video game so you want the levels to get harder as the dog progresses in training. So that’s why we don’t let anyone do group class at first because it would be like starting off at the final level of a video game. It’s just going to be super hard because there’s so many different distractions. There’s dogs, there’s humans, there’s girls running by. There’s all the different stuff at group class. So basically, you first want to start in an area that’s not very distractible, so a non-busy park outdoors or at your house or at a training facility. You can do that.

And then after that, you want to make it harder. So you want to go to maybe a busier park, or then you want to go out, start going out in public. And then you can go like Lowe’s, Home Depot, somewhere like that, like Best Pro shops to make it extra hard. And then after that, then you want to add on group class and make that as hard as possible. And then you just keep upping the ante and making the distractions more and more. But basically, you want to start with little distractions, then keep adding on more and more distractions as you go.

Speaker 1:
Now a lot of folks, they’re unaware of the whole dog training process. So do you actually drive out to people’s homes? If people go to makeyourdogepic.com and they request information, do you schedule the first dog training lesson at their home or do they have to come to your office? Or what’s kind of the best practice or the commonplace practice for you when you’re training new dogs?

JT Lawson:
Yeah. So typically, we offer the first lesson for 50 cents, and we do that in people’s homes. Or if they rather us do it at the park, we can do it there, but that’s where we do it. That way, we can kind of see what’s actually going on. And that way, we’ll come to you and you don’t have to waste your time coming to our facility and that’s where the first lesson is.

Speaker 1:
Now, the first lesson, again, you’re adamant about making sure that first lesson is always 50 cents. Why is the first lesson 50 cents? I mean, there’s so many trainers that are offering over-the-phone free quotes, they’re offering a chatbot on the website. Why do you offer that first lesson for 50 cents?

JT Lawson:
Because you have to meet people and actually find out what’s going on. And you have to figure out, for us on a selfish reasons, I get to see what’s going on with your dog. So some people put in the notes when they use like chatbots or they just email in or they text in or even just call in and they say, “Yeah, I have a little chihuahua Yorkie thing. It’s not really aggressive. It growls every once in a while.” And then I get there and it’s like Beethoven, it’s 150-pound St. Bernard and it wants to eat me. So that’s why we have to, for a selfish reason, that’s why we do the 50 cents.

But for the non-selfish reason, it’s because we want to make sure that we’re actually a good fit for you. So you get to see how we train, you get to see us work with the dog in front of you. It’s kind of a try-it-before-you-buy-it type deal. And then we want to build that trust and earn your business and not just give your quote over the phone and just you have no idea what you’re actually getting. So when we’re there, we’re going to go over the whole training process from start to finish and where we’re going to go with it and how long it’s going to take, how much it’ll cost and everything is very upfront.

And we guarantee our results. So a lot of trainers say, use the terminology, “It might stick after training.” Basically, that’s their excuse to just be like, “Hey, it didn’t stick. It’s your fault. You weren’t consistent enough with the dog afterwards. Your dog’s just not smart enough.” We will never blame you. It’s always going to be our fault if your dog’s not listening. So that’s why we offer money-back guarantee and lifetime learning classes where you can come to group class and learn forever.

Speaker 1:
Now, for people out there that are new to the Tulsa dog training space, I think it can be overwhelming looking at all the different options. How long will it take to train a dog? If I decide to go to Make Your Dog Epic and schedule that first lesson, where you guys are featuring this revolutionary focused-based positive reinforcement training, how long will it take to train the dog?

JT Lawson:
Yeah. So we fix 98% of issues in about one to four weeks, and that’s it so we move pretty fast. We don’t do like six months boot camps like some other trainers do. We don’t have to do 85 private lessons. We’re going to be done in about one to four weeks.

And then after that, if you still want to learn more after your issues are fixed or you just want more practice, that’s why you get group class forever. So we’ll be there for you forever, but your issues are going to be fixed in about one to four weeks.

Speaker 1:
Now, again, folks, that website is makeyourdogepic.com. JT, we really do appreciate you carving out time for us.

And on future broadcast, what we’re going to be doing is we’re going to be answering the most commonly asked questions. When you meet with someone face-to-face and you’re meeting with a potential customer about training their dog, there are definitely some frequently asked questions so we’ll be tapping into your wisdom about dog training on future broadcast.

Is your dog and furry friend holding you hostage? Will your dog not stop pulling on its leash and eating your sausage? Who wrote that? Well, I don’t mean to brag, but I actually wrote it and-

Wow.

… it rhymes. People dig it, like a dog. You get it?

Okay.

So I’m just going to keep reading. Will your dog not stop jumping on you or pooping in your house like you’re on the set of Jumanji or living in a zoo? It only took me two weeks to write that line while sitting at the base of a waterfall while gazing upon my epic dog. The dog that once held me hostage was now my best friend.

It’s so good.

The dog that would never listen was now all ears.

It’s so good. I just want to cry.

Pull yourself together, man. And if you, too, want to transform your dog from a furry terrorist into your best friend, what you need to do is schedule your first lesson at makeyourdogepic.com, where your first lesson is always just 50 cents. And with the savings, you can use that to pay the rent. Again your first lesson is always just 50 cents at makeyourdogepic.com.

Wow.

Stop the endless barking. Reduce the aggressive behaviors. Prevent dog jumping. Stop your dog from chasing the elderly UPS driver as he attempts to deliver a package. Stop your dog from biting Pam, your yoga pants-wearing neighbor as she just attempts to speed-walk in peace. Stop your dog from eating your wife’s wedding dress and peeing in your closet on top of your Christmas gifts. Stop the madness at makeyourdogepic.com. Experience the revolutionary focus-based positive reinforcement training and methodology. Our goal is dog obedience, but never at the expense of dog personality. It’s the same dog, but now it’s all ears.

Wow. Mancar, you are a talented vocal artist. I-

Well, well, I-

I could sense you. I could feel the passion. It’s contagious.

Well, my friend, I am passionate about the product. I once went 60 days without sleeping.

Really?

My wife’s wedding dress got eaten and my neighbor Pam was bitten by my dog and-

Oh, man.

… my quality of life was an all-time low. I didn’t invite people over to my home for months because of the new dog and I always smelled like urine.

You do still smell a little bit like dog urine. I just-

Well, I made my dog epic. I was hostage and that’s where the passion comes from. You’ve got to believe in your product and you’ve got to project from the diaphragm.

The diaphragm.

You have to bend your knees.

Bend the knees, bend the knees.

You have to drink ginger.

Drink the ginger.

You’ve got to ingest apple cider vinegar.

Apple cider. I can do that.

And with the dog bone, you want to chew on the dog bone before-

Hard pass, not going to-

… recording so you can now emulate the dog and you should listen to Atomic Dog.

Gosh, I can do that.

But you’re not a dog. But you want to just chew on the bone, the oversized bone, not the regular size-

Hard pass. Just not going to-

You want to-

Not going to chew on the bone.
