Dog Training Classes | What Are the Most Frequently Asked Questions By Tulsa Dog Training Customers?

Show Transcript

Speaker 1:
All right. Welcome back to the Make Your Dog Epic podcast, where we are interviewing a Tulsa dog training expert about Tulsa dog training classes, Tulsa dog training board and train, how to train a dog that’s not behaving properly. But specifically, we’re focusing in on today, on this concept or this idea of what are the most frequently asked questions by dog training customers? I mean, folks, if you’re out there today looking to get your dog trained, it’s probably the first time you’ve hired a professional dog trainer. So we’re going to be joined here with the highest rated and most reviewed dog trainer in Oklahoma, JT Lawson. Welcome onto the show and tell us, sir, what are the most frequently asked questions by dog training customers?

JT Lawson:
Yeah, so thanks for having me on. There’s multiple different questions people ask. One of the big ones is what dog training tools should they use? So should they use a prong collar, shock collar, choke chain, treats? Should they use a clicker? Should they use a harness? They ask what kind of food they should be using. They ask if it’s too old to train a dog, if the dog’s too young, when they should start training, where they should train, all those sorts of questions.

Speaker 1:
Now, I think what happens is, people are overwhelmed. They have a dog that’s behaving poorly. They want the dog to stop behaving poorly. And a lot of times they go to these different websites, they fill out the form, and they get a lot of mumbo jumbo. They get a lot of high pressure sales techniques, and they’re just wanting to know, can you train the dog and what’s it going to cost? What would you say to somebody out there that says, Hey, what’s it going to cost me to train my dog? And can you ultimately train my dog?

JT Lawson:
Yeah, so we can 100% train your dog. And that’s why first lesson is 50 cents. So I can’t tell you exactly how much it’ll cost without seeing your dog. Because every dog’s different and everyone’s goals are different. And then after that, we’ll train your dog. It takes anywhere from about one to three weeks. And then packages, they range from about 500 to 3000 depending on how advanced you want the training. And then one to three weeks. And that’s what we’ll tell you because we’re not trying to upsell you or anything. And then also another thing we’ll do is we will beat any competitor’s price. So if you find a dog trainer and they have similar services as us, we will just straight up beat their price because our whole goal is happy dogs, happy life. So a trained dog gets more freedom.

Speaker 1:
A trained dog gets more freedom. So is there a particular breed of dog that you try to stay away from, or can you train all breeds of dogs?

JT Lawson:
Well, we can train all breeds of dogs. I mean, I’ve had trainers who have trained coyotes, or they train part wolves. So we train them. We typically don’t train full-blooded coyotes or wolves, but that’s just the main ones. But any breed of dog we’ll train. And if we get out to the first lesson and we don’t think we can, we’ll just let you know there. But there’s not really any dog we don’t work with. Any dog breeds we train. So I know a lot of trainers don’t train pit bulls. We train a ton of pit bulls. Some dog trainers won’t train Chihuahuas or Huskies. We train them. We trained any breed, we’ll train them.

Speaker 1:
Any breed, any breed. Now, as far as bizarre dog training instances or examples, I mean, you have trained so many dogs now, has there been a recent dog you’ve trained where you thought to yourself, what is going on here?

JT Lawson:
Yeah. Yeah. So I’ve trained, they were really nice people, and they were really good clients. They had three dogs. All three dogs only had three legs, so they had three dogs, all pit bull breeds, and they had all three legs. So their instance, they had the youngest one and the oldest one were not getting along with each other, and they would keep fighting with each other, and they could not coexist without wanting to just murder the other one. So we came in, we trained them, we trained them and the parents as well on how to handle the situation. And now they’re able to coincide and they’re doing great.

Speaker 1:
Now, as far as these Tulsa dog training classes, you hear about the phrase classes. You hear about the phrase Tulsa Dog training bootcamp. You hear a lot about the board and train. These are words and descriptions that are often used within the dog training space. What does that mean for the listeners out there? What’s the difference between a dog training class, a board and train? Just walk us through the landscaping of the dog training services that you guys offer.

JT Lawson:
Yeah, so there’s multiple different things. So potty training’s one of them. So potty training’s one. We’re working on it, but we’re basically giving you homework to finish fixing it. Because with potty training, I can’t move in with you and make sure you’re doing it. So that’s really up to you. We can give you the tools and how to do it, and we’ll set you in the right direction. The other one is one-on-one training. That’s where it’s half dog training, half human training. So we’re training the dog and we’re setting a good foundation with the dog, but we’re also training you to train the dog. So that’s where you’re much more involved and you have some homework and you get really good results. And we’re training you and the dog.

Another one is boarding school. That’s where the dog comes and stays with us anywhere from one to three weeks. And we’re basically doing all of your homework so you don’t have to do any homework. And at the end, the dog just knows everything and it listens. And then we have a lesson where we bring the dog back, and we’re going to spend time with you to make sure you understand all the different, how we train, when to train, when to use commands, when not to use commands, when to do that stuff. And then the other form is we have group class. That’s after. So group class is where you come twice a week and you can train on new stuff or work on old stuff. Because we want to be there for you forever. So group class is included for free for life because we want to be there for the rest of your dog’s life after training.

Speaker 1:
And again, that website is MakeYourDogEpic.com. MakeYourDogEpic.com. I think a lot of wonderful people, they get a dog. The dog begins to bite, the dog begins to pull on the leash. The dog begins to display a variety of behavior issues. Because it’s a dog, it doesn’t know these things. What are the most common behavior issues that you see with those first time customers? Is it pulling on a leash? Is it biting? Is it pooping in the house? What are the most common dog training behavior issues that you often see?

JT Lawson:
Yeah, so there’s a ton. So there’s chewing up things, digging in the backyard, pooping in and out of the house, pooping on beds. They’re peeing on beds. They’re pooping under the bed, they’re jumping on people. They’re barking at people. They’re growling, they’re nipping, they’re jumping on everyone. They’re growling at the neighbors. They’re howling in the middle of the night. They’re pulling mom down the street. We trained a Great Dane that pulled mom through an RV park. Mom’s hand got caught in the leash, and the Great Dane thought this guy on the bike needed to die. That’s just what it thought. And so it started sprinting after this guy riding a bicycle while mom’s hand was caught in the leash and then just started pulling her through the park. They got kicked out. And we have many different issues. Dogs won’t come, they won’t sit, they won’t down. They won’t walk next to them on a leash. They can’t go out in public. They have to put them in a different room when people come over. So many different issues that people struggle with.

Speaker 1:
Well, we greatly appreciate you carving out time for us today. Again, that’s a MakeYourDogEpic.com. MakeYourDogEpic.com. For people out there that maybe haven’t heard this before, they don’t know, what does that first dog training lesson look like when you train someone’s dog here, right here in Tulsa, Oklahoma? What does that first Tulsa dog training lesson look like?

JT Lawson:
Yeah, so the first lesson is 50 cents, and that’s where we’re going to come out. We’re going to talk to you about your dog, figure out your goals, your issues. And then after that, we’re going to train your dog in front of you so that way you can see how our system works and how we train. And then we’ll figure out a package specifically tailored to your dog to get your dog to your goals.

Speaker 1:
And again, that’s MakeYourDogEpic.com. That’s MakeYourDogEpic.com. JT, we really do appreciate your time, sir, and we’ll talk to you in five minutes. Is your dog and furry friend holding you hostage? Will your dog not stop pulling on its leash and eating your sausage? Who wrote that? Well, I don’t mean to brag, but I actually wrote it and-

Speaker 3:
Wow.

Speaker 1:
… it rhymes. People dig it, like a dog. You get it? Okay, so I’m just going to keep reading. Will your dog not stop jumping on you or pooping in your house, like you’re on the set of Jumanji or living in a zoo? It only took me two weeks to write that line while sitting at the base of a waterfall while gazing upon my epic dog. The dog that once held me hostage was now my best friend.

Speaker 3:
It’s so good.

Speaker 1:
The dog that would never listen was now all ears.

Speaker 3:
It’s so good. I just want to cry.

Speaker 1:

Speaker 3:
Wow. Man, Carl. You are a talented vocal artist.

Speaker 1:
Well, well, I don’t-

Speaker 3:
I can sense your… I can feel the passion. It’s contagious.

Speaker 1:
Well, my friend, I am passionate about the product. I once went 60 days without sleeping.

Speaker 3:
Really?

Speaker 1:
My wife’s wedding dress got eaten and my neighbor Pam was bitten by my dog, and-

Speaker 3:
Oh, man.

Speaker 1:
My quality of life was an all time low. I actually didn’t have an… I didn’t invite people over to my home for months because of the new dog. And I always smelled like urine.

Speaker 3:
You do still smell a little bit like dog urine. Just a little.

Speaker 1:
Well, I made my dog epic. I was hostage. And that’s where the passion comes from. You’ve got to believe in your product, and you’ve got to project from the diaphragm.

Speaker 3:
The diaphragm.

Speaker 1:
You’ve got to bend your knees-

Speaker 3:
Bend the knees, bend knees.

Speaker 1:
You’ve got to drink ginger.

Speaker 3:
Drink the ginger.

Speaker 1:
And you’ve got to ingest the apple cider vinegar.

Speaker 3:
Apple cider. I can do that.

Speaker 1:
And with a dog bone, you want to chew on the dog bone before them.

Speaker 3:
Hard pass, I’m not going to-

Speaker 1:
And recording so that you can emulate the dog and you should listen to Atomic Dog.

Speaker 3:
I can do that.

Speaker 1:
But you’re not a dog. But you want to just chew on the bone, the oversized bone, not the regular sized bone. It sounds weird, but you-

Speaker 3:
Hard pass. Not going to-

Speaker 1:
You want to-

Speaker 3:
Not going to chew on the bone.
