Clay:
All right. Welcome back to the Make Your Dog Epic, Tulsa Dog Training podcast. James, I have to ask you this question, sir. Is it worth it to send your dog to dog training? Is it worth it? Is it something that you believe it’s worth the price?

James:
For 50 cents, man. You can’t beat that.

Clay:
I’m asking you the question because it’s a thing where a lot of people are thinking about hiring a dog trainer to train their Tulsa dog, and they’re going, “Yeah, I thought about doing it myself. I’ve thought about paying someone to train the dog.” And so I just want to get into… Maybe it’s a little teaching principal, maybe it’s a teaching principle. Maybe we can learn something about success in business in life, and also we can talk about the dog training thing. So let’s talk about-

James:
Sounds good.

Clay:
So you cook your own food. Is this correct?

James:
I always do.

Clay:
And what do you eat every single day?

James:
Steak and rice.

Clay:
Every day?

James:
Every single day.

Clay:
Every meal?

James:
Every meal. Every day.

Clay:
Okay, it’s steak and rice.

James:
That’s it.

Clay:
And how long does it take you to cook said meal?

James:
Maybe like 25 minutes.

Clay:
It’s part of your thing.

James:
It’s what I do.

Clay:
It’s what you do. Now, again, you go to the store to buy the meat. Is that right?

James:
I do.

Clay:
Do you buy the rice at the store?

James:
I do.

Clay:
Why don’t you grow your own rice? And why don’t you raise and matriculate and coach up and mentor up your own cattle before eating it?

James:
I just don’t have the time or the knowledge.

Clay:
There it is. But you probably could if you had to.

James:
If I had to, I probably could.

Clay:
But you currently don’t grow your own rice and you don’t… Is that an accurate statement? You don’t raise up, mentor up, coach up and feed your own livestock?

James:
That’s right.

Clay:
Why?

James:
Like I said, I don’t have the time. I don’t have the experience, I don’t have the knowledge, and I don’t really want to. I would rather just go to the store and just pay him the money.

Clay:
But you see what I’m doing here with the dog training thing here.

James:
I do.

Clay:
So in the dog training world, it’s like you could train your own dog. You probably could. There’s a reason why I don’t own a lawnmower. I’ll tell you why. You know why I don’t have a lawnmower that I use?

James:
Because you don’t mow your lawn?

Clay:
Right, I don’t want to. With this lake house we have, there’s not anything you have to mow. It’s just forest. Nice. The house is cut into the forest and it looks out over the lake and I like that. You know why I like that?

James:
You don’t have to mow it?

Clay:
Right? And I just think people need to think about these things sometimes in our lives. A lot of times we sign up for something, we plant the garden, but maybe we don’t want to pull the weeds to make the garden look good over time. And maybe right now you’re saying, “Hey, you know what? I have bought a dog, purchased a dog, inherited a dog, someone gave me a dog.” Somehow you have a dog in your life, and you might be saying to yourself, ‘You know what? I could go to dog training school to learn how to become a dog trainer, and I could then train up, coach up, mentor up, work with my own dog to teach my dog to become a well-behaved dog.

But if I did that, if I’m a doctor, I’m a dentist, I’m a lawyer, I have a job. I work at a fast food restaurant. I’m a manager. I’m an automotive repair tech. I would be having to do what with my day during the time that I would be training my dog?

James:
You’d have to be working or not working.

Clay:
You’d have to not be working at your job. You’d have to say like, man, am I going to call my boss and say, “Boss, I got two weeks of vacation time coming. I want to use all of that to train my dog.”

James:
Your boss would probably fire you.

Clay:
Think about this though for a second. This is what a lot of people end up doing. So when they come home from a busy workday and White Fang, Fido, their new dog is misbehaving, are they going to give the dog the training that it needs?

James:
Oh no.

Clay:
And so what do you think the number one reason is that people reach out to us at Make Your Dog Epic, Tulsa Dog Training. Why do people reach out to us and what do you think the main motivation is?

James:
They just want to have good dogs, and they don’t have the time or the knowledge to train their own dogs.

Clay:
And that’s where we come in, James.

James:
Boom. That’s it.

Clay:
And the first lesson at Make Your Dog Epic, Tulsa Dog Training. Again, if you’re asking the question, is it worth it to send your dog to dog training? Well, okay, the first lesson is how much?

James:
IT’s 50 cents.

Clay:
How much?

James:
50 cents. And you could pay with pennies.

Clay:
You could probably shake some change out of your car and find enough change or shake enough change out of your couch to find enough change to train the dog for the first lesson for 50 cents, and the reason why that we do that first lesson for 50 cents is why, James?

James:
You want people to experience what you guys are doing.

Clay:
Yeah, we want people to see that we have a focus-based, positive reinforcement training strategy that we use, and we want you as the consumer to look at the situation, to see the training we provide and to decide whether it’s a good fit for you and your dog. And then James, we have three different packages that we offer, and we’ll call it Package A, Package B, Package C. And we let the consumer look at the different packages based upon the breed of their dog and based upon the level of training that we provide, and we find the package that’s the right fit for the dog’s breed, for the customer, and for the budget of the customer. Because some of our customers want to spend a lot of money. James, have you ever seen these dogs that do tricks?

James:
I have. And those are awesome epic dogs.

Clay:
But there’s people that want to spend 3, 4, $5,000 to train a dog to do tricks. We had a guy that called us last year, true story. He said that he wants a guard dog that can guard his properties. He wants multiple guard dogs. And I asked the guy, I said, what’s your budget? He said, “Well, I’d like to spend about $25,000. Is the max probably around 20,000?” And I said, “To train your dog.” He said, “Absolutely.” And I had to let him know, “We are not available. That’s not what we do. We need to refer you to somebody else.” And because if someone’s going to spend $25,000 to train a dog, there’s other services out there that do that, but that’s like a police grade dog. We’re focused on keeping dogs from jumping, pulling on their leash, biting, barking, all the things that dogs do if they’re not trained.

But the way we do our training is that the dog’s behavior changes, but we don’t change the dog’s personality. We train the dog and improve the behavior, but we don’t change the dog’s personality. So we want everyone out to be able to experience the first lesson for 50 cents.

So James, quick recap for the listeners out there. If someone wants to experience the makeyourdogepic.com experience, what do they need to do? What’s the first step?

James:
They need to call in and schedule an appointment.

Clay:
You call in or you fill out the form at makeyourdogepic.com makeyourdogepic.com James, you are a tremendous American and a beautiful man, and I really appreciate you carving out time for us today to be here. What are you are eating tonight?

James:
Steak and rice.

Clay:
Steak and rice. And are you going to be out there growing that rice tonight?

James:
I will not.

Clay:
Are you going to be out there growing that steak tonight?

James:
I will not be doing that.

Clay:
That was because you have decided you’re going to delegate certain things in your life to other people. And that’s really what dog training is all about. You have to ask yourself, do you want to train these dogs yourself or do you want someone else to do it?

James, I really do appreciate your time and will harass you in about five minutes.

James:
See you soon, Clay.

Carl:
Is your dog and furry friend holding you hostage?

James:
Will your dog not stop pulling on its leash and eating your sausage? Who wrote that?

Carl:
Well, I don’t mean to brag, but I actually wrote it and wow, it rhymes. People dig it like a dog. You get it?

James:
Okay, so I’m just going to keep reading.

Will your dog not stop jumping on you or pooping in your house like you’re on the set of Jumanji or living in a zoo?

Carl:
It only took me two weeks to write that line while sitting at the base of a waterfall while gazing upon my epic dog. The dog that once held me hostage was now my best friend.

James:
It’s so good.

Carl:
The dog that would never listen was now all ears.

James:
It’s so good. I just want to cry.

Carl:
Pull yourself together, man. And if you too want to transform your dog from a furry terrorist into your best friend, what you need to do is schedule your first lesson at makeyourdogepic.com where your first lesson is always just 50 cents. And with the savings, you can use that to pay the rent. Again, your first lesson is always just 50 cents at makeyourdogepic.com.

Stop the endless barking. Reduce the aggressive behaviors. Prevent dog jumping. Stop your dog from chasing the elderly UPS driver as he attempts to deliver a package. Stop your dog from biting Pam, your yoga pants-wearing neighbor as she just attempts to speed walk in peace. Stop your dog from eating your wife’s wedding dress and peeing in your closet on top of your Christmas gifts. Stop the madness at makeyourdogepic.com Experience the revolutionary focus-based, positive-reinforcement training and methodology. Our goal is dog obedience, but never at the expense of dog personality. It’s the same dog, but now it’s all ears.

James:
Wow, man Carl. You are a talented vocal artist. You can sense… I can feel the passion. It’s contagious.

Carl:
Well, my friend, I am passionate about the product. I once went 60 days without sleeping. My wife’s wedding dress got eaten and my neighbor Pam was bitten by my dog. My quality of life was at all-time low. I didn’t invite people over to my home for months because of the new dog and I always smelled like urine.

James:
You do still smell a little bit like dog urine, just a little.

Carl:
Well, I made my dog epic. I was hostage and that’s where the passion comes from. You’ve got to believe in your product and you’ve got to project from the diaphragm.

James:
The diaphragm?

Carl:
To bend your knees.

James:
Bend the knees, bend the knees.

Carl:
You’ve got to drink ginger.

James:
Drink the ginger.

Carl:
You’ve got to ingest apple cider vinegar.

James:
Apple cider vinegar, I can do that.

Carl:
And with a dog bone, you want to chew on the dog bone before the-

James:
Hard pass, not going to-

Carl:
Recording so that you can emulate the dog. And you should listen to Atomic Dog.

James:
I can do that.

Carl:
But you’re not a dog. But you want to just chew on the bone, get the oversized bone, not the regular sized.

James:
Hard pass.

Carl:
I know it’s weird. Not going to chew on the bone.
