Show Transcript

Clay:
All right. Welcome back to the Make Your Dog Epic Tulsa Dog Training Podcast. And on today’s show, what we’re talking about today is talking about how can you find a dog trainer out there that you can really trust that’s worth it. I mean, there’s a lot of dog trainers out there that charge certain fees, certain prices, but how can you find a dog trainer out there that’s worth the cost? Jared joins us today. Jared, do you have a dog?

Jared:
Yes, I do have a dog.

Clay:
And what kind of dog do you have?

Jared:
Well, I got an English bulldog and a pug.

Clay:
You have an English bulldog and a pug?

Jared:
Yes.

Clay:
And with the dogs, did you train the dogs yourself or did you hire a dog trainer to come in and mentor your dog from afar?

Jared:
Well, usually it would be up to me, either/or people at my household. Either way, yes, we’re trying.

Clay:
So you’ve trained the dogs previously?

Jared:
In a certain way, yes.

Clay:
What do you mean in a certain way?

Jared:
It’s like, well, you don’t want spank your dog in that certain way. That’s not usually how your train a dog a certain way.

Clay:
So you’re actually training the dogs yourself in your home?

Jared:
I am trying my best. It’s somewhat successful.

Clay:
If you could pay somebody who is a professional to train your dog and bring your dog back as a well-behaved dog, if it was in the budget, would you do it?

Jared:
Yes, I would do it.

Clay:
But the reason why you’re not going to do it, because maybe it’s not in the budget, is that the idea?

Jared:
Yes.

Clay:
Okay. So you’re actually willing to put the time in to train the dog?

Jared:
Yes.

Clay:
Are you watching YouTube videos or how are you getting your dog training moves? Who’s teaching you your dog training moves?

Jared:
No, I’ve just heard from people here and there throughout the years about certain ways to train a dog.

Clay:
So you’re kind of going off of the tribal knowledge that you’ve gained?

Jared:
Yes. And from everybody else, pretty much.

Clay:
And what kind of dog do you have right now again, are you training?

Jared:
Well, not really. It’s just English bulldog, I guess.

Clay:
English bulldog.

Jared:
Pug, actually.

Clay:
Pug? Was it well-behaved.

Jared:
It’s getting there.

Clay:
It’s getting there. Does the dog, does it sit when you want to sit?

Jared:
It doesn’t. It’s insane right now. It is kind of a new dog we just adopted.

Clay:
You just got it?

Jared:
We got it like a couple of months ago.

Clay:
What kind of stuff is your dog doing that’s out of bounds right now? What kind of stuff is your dog doing where you’re saying, man, this dog is out of bounds?

Jared:
Well, I mean, it’s been urinating all over the house, but-

Clay:
Is it really?

Jared:
We recently found out that it had a urinary infection.

Clay:
Your dog is urinating all over the house. How often does it do this?

Jared:
Well, recently, it’s like every other day.

Clay:
No way.

Jared:
Because of the infection.

Clay:
No way. James, get in here. We got an intervention. So you’re saying that your dog is urinating in your house every other day?

Jared:
Yes. Yeah. Yes.

James:
You’ve got to take that thing out back.

Clay:
No. Hey, James, listen. At Make Your Dog Epic, we mentor up and coach up dogs. We don’t put dogs down, James. That’s what people would do if we didn’t exist. That’s what we’re doing. We’re saving dogs. We’re saving the canines. So where does the dog go? Where does it urinate? Where is it doing it?

Jared:
Well, usually every morning I try to take it outside.

Clay:
But I mean, where’s it going? In the house, where’s it going?

Jared:
Usually just in the kitchen.

Clay:
Oh, every day? Where the food is?

Jared:
Not usually on the carpet because that would be too much. We just try and keep it…

Clay:
Every day it goes?

Jared:
No, not every day. It’s just more recently because of the infection. We’re giving her, like-

Clay:
Like every other day?

Jared:
In the past week, yes.

Clay:
James, what are your thoughts on this? Is this acceptable or is that the kind of thing that we would accept at Make Your Dog Epic Tulsa Dog Training.

James:
I’ll tell you what, the kitchen is where the food is, and if the dogs go in there, that’s not the move.

Clay:
Okay. So again, this is how it works there. Jared, if you were going to look for a dog trainer, I’m asking if you were going to hire one, what would be the first question that you would ask if you went to makeyourdogepic.com and you scheduled that, if you requested additional information, if you scheduled that first lesson, what would be your first question that you would ask?

Jared:
How could I make my dog stop urinating in the house?

Clay:
That’d be your first question? Okay.

Jared:
Yes.

Clay:
And we would say, hey, the first lesson is 50 cents. And when you bring your dog out, we’re going to show you the different training systems and methodologies that we use. Part of what we call, we call this a focused based, positive reinforcement training. But then we ask you to bring your dog out to a set time and set location where we will demonstrate for you how we would train the dog. What other question would you have there, sir? Before thinking about parting with your hard-earned money.

Jared:
Right. Well, I would ask, of course, how to make him go certain places, like keep him to stay kind of thing. Like, my pug is currently freaking out everywhere, running everywhere around the house.

Clay:
Your pug is freaking out?

Jared:
Well, I mean, we’re trying to get her to stay in certain places.

Clay:
Her?

Jared:
Yeah, it’s a her.

Clay:
It’s a she, okay.

Jared:
It’s a she, yes.

Clay:
James, what other question would you have before you’re going to say, I don’t know whether I want to invest this kind of money to train my pug? What other question would you ask?

James:
You know what I would ask?

Jared:
Do you have a dog, James?

James:
I don’t have a dog, but I just want to have a good dog. If it’s not a good dog, it’s going out back.

Clay:
When was the last time you had a dog?

James:
It’s been years.

Clay:
And you keep talking about taking the dog out back. Let me address this for just a second.

Jared:
It’s because he hasn’t loved a dog in years.

Clay:
Let me say this real quick here. What happens is a lot of people reach out to us at Make Your Dog Epic Tulsa Dog Training because they have a dog that is misbehaving and it’s causing stress in the house. I mean, the dog is stressing out the people that live in the house, the moms and the dads are fighting. The kids are getting upset. The dog’s eating shoes, it’s eating boots, it’s pulling on the leash, it’s barking at the neighbors. It’s eating food off the table that you’re living on the threshold of hell because your dog cannot be properly trained. And so what we do is we offer that first dog training lesson at Make Your Dog Epic Tulsa Dog Training for just a dollar. Now, Jared, why would we offer that first dog training lesson for a dollar? Why wouldn’t we just… In our case, it’s 50 cents. We’re actually half the price of a dollar. Why would we offer that first lesson for 50 cents?

Jared:
Well, because usually people, they don’t really know the experience that they’re going to have, they don’t want to pay upfront a bunch of money if they don’t know what they’re getting into. So, which is why we just start off with 50 cents, just to show them what we’re made of, basically.

Clay:
James, what do you think? Why do we do it there for that low price of 50 cents?

James:
So that they could experience the glory of the Tulsa dog trainer, Make Your Dog Epic.

Clay:
That’s why we do it. And again, folks, if you’re out there today and you have a dog, maybe you have a beautiful dog, maybe you have White Fang, maybe you have Cujo, maybe you have a dog that’s misbehaving and you just want to be done with the jackassery where the dog is destroying and lowering your quality of life, all you’ve got to do is schedule that first dog training lesson today, not for free, but for 50 cents at makeyourdogepic.com. James, as we like to say here on the show, what do we like to say in the show?

James:
Hey, we’ll see you in five minutes there, Clay.

Clay:
That’s right.

Carl:
Is your dog and furry friend holding you hostage?

Clay:
Will your dog not stop pulling on its leash and eating your sausage? Who wrote that?

Carl:
Well, I don’t mean to brag, but I actually wrote it and wow, it rhymes. People dig it, like a dog. You get it?

Clay:
Okay, so I’m just going to keep reading. Will your dog not stop jumping on you or pooping in your house, like you’re on the set of Jumanji or living in a zoo?

Carl:
It only took me two weeks to write that line while sitting at the base of a waterfall, while gazing upon my epic dog. The dog that once held me hostage was now my best friend.

Clay:
It’s so good.

Carl:
The dog that would never listen was now all ears.

Clay:
It’s so good, I just want to cry.

Carl:
Pull yourself together, man. And if you too want to transform your dog from a furry terrorist into your best friend, what you need to do is schedule your first lesson at makeyourdogepic.com, where your first lesson is always just 50 cents. And with the savings, you can use that to pay the rent. Again, your first lesson is always just 50 cents at makeyourdogepic.com.

Clay:
Wow.

Carl:
Stop the endless barking. Reduce the aggressive behaviors. Prevent dog jumping. Stop your dog from chasing the elderly UPS driver as he attempts to deliver a package. Stop your dog from biting Pam, your yoga pants wearing neighbor, as she just attempts to speed. Walk in peace. Stop your dog from eating your wife’s wedding dress and being in your closet on top of your Christmas gifts. Stop the madness at makeyourdogepic.com. Experience the revolutionary focused based positive reinforcement training and methodology. Out goal is dog obedience, but never at the expense of dog personality. It’s the same dog, but now it’s all ears.

Clay:
Wow. Man, Carl, you are a talented vocal artist.

Carl:
Well, well.

Clay:
I can feel the passion. It’s contagious.

Carl:
Well, my friend, I am passionate about the product. I once went 60 days without sleeping.

Clay:
Really?

Carl:
My wife’s wedding dress got eaten and my neighbor Pam was bitten by my dog.

Clay:
Oh, man.

Carl:
My quality of life was at all time low. I actually, I didn’t invite people over to my home for months because of the new dog. And I always smelled like urine.

Clay:
You do still smell a little bit like dog urine.

Carl:
Well, I made my dog epic. I was hostage. And that’s where the passion comes from. You’ve got to believe in your product and you’ve got to project from the diaphragm.

Clay:
The diaphragm.

Carl:
To bend your knees.

Clay:
Bend the knees, bend the knees.

Carl:
Drink ginger.

Clay:
Drink the ginger.

Carl:
You’ve got to ingest apple cider vinegar, apple cider with a dog bone. You want to chew on the dog bone before then.

Clay:
Hard pass.

Carl:
Recording so that you can emulate the dog, and you should listen to Atomic Dog.

Clay:
I can do that.

Carl:
But you’re not a dog, but you want to just chew on the bone, the oversized bone, not the regular sized bone.

Clay:
Hard pass, not going to chew on the bone.
