Speaker 1:
All right. Welcome back to the Make Your Dog Epic Dog Training Podcast. On today’s show we’re talking about board and train Tulsa dog train. We’re talking about boarding and training. So many people are going on to Google, they’re typing in, “Tulsa board and train dog training,” and here to talk about it is JT Lawson of Make Your Dog Epic. Sir, how are you?
JT Lawson:
I’m doing phenomenal.
Speaker 1:
So let’s talk about this board and train idea. I go on to Google, I type in, “Board and train.” What am I looking for? When I find these wonderful companies that come up top in the search results, what does it mean to board and train a dog?
JT Lawson:
Yeah. Well, we’ve worked with a ton of people who have done boarding schools. Basically what it is, is where your dog comes and they go and stay with the trainer overnight for a certain amount of time. And then the dog comes back, and what’s supposed to happen is the dog’s supposed to understand everything, and the client has no homework. And then the trainer goes over with them how to train, when to use the training, when to use commands, make sure the whole family’s on the same page. And that’s what’s supposed to happen.
What I will say, we get a ton of people who initially had come and they’re like, “I’m just super worried about doing a board and train because I don’t want to send my baby away, because I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about board and trains.” So I’d like to address this really quick. Because people have concerns of, “Hey, I’ve heard that people have beat dogs while they’re gone away for board and trains. I’ve heard that they don’t feed them. I heard that they starve them to make them want treats more.” And sadly, that is true.
There’s a lot of places that you just can’t trust. So with anything… Just like with the mechanics, there’s going to be mechanics you can’t trust that are going to upsell you and charge you more or tell you your brakes are bad when they’re not. It’s the same as in the dog training world. Most people don’t know, but a lot of these board and train places, if they use treats, what they’ll do is they just won’t feed your dog. And then they’ll only feed it through treats while training. So that way the dog’s starving, he’s like, “Frick, I’ll do whatever I want for this treat.” But basically they’re starving the dog so that the dog will be easier to train.
And the big thing with us is we offer that 50 cent first lesson, so that you can come out and we’ll come out and you can actually meet us and make sure that we’re somebody you trust. We’re going to train your dog in front of you. We’re going to give you the whole layout of how the bootcamp works, and the boarding school and how all of that works, and what your dog will be doing on a day-to-day basis, what a day in the life looks like, and then how long it’s going to take, and what your dog will do when they come home. Because a lot of these boarding schools and bootcamps and places like that, they’ll take the dog and you don’t even know what you’re getting. And they’ll just be gone for six months and they’ll come back and they’ll just be the same exact dog and not listen at all. But now you’ve paid thousands of dollars for nothing.
Speaker 1:
Now, you meet with people every day who are first-time clients, they’re first-time dog training clients, and they have some commonly asked questions. They have some frequently asked questions that they often ask you about training their dog. And so I’d love if you could fire off for us or share with us, what are the most commonly asked Tulsa dog training related questions?
JT Lawson:
Yeah, so one of the main things when it comes to Tulsa dog training questions is, “What will a day in the life look like at a boarding school?” Well, your dog’s going to go out many times a day. At the end of the day, we’re going to give your dog treats, play with it, make sure spirits are high. It’s going to be training multiple times a day. Other questions are things like, “Are harnesses acceptable?” We at Make Your Dog Epic, we do not like harnesses, because if you think about sled dogs, they all wear harnesses. That way they can pull with absolutely no resistance. So that’s one of the negatives about harnesses.
And they ask, “What type of food? Is my dog allowed on the bed? What kind of crate should I use? Should I use a crate? Are crates bad? Does my dog have to sleep outside? Do I have to do negative reinforcement? Can I do positive?” There’s a bunch of different questions.
Speaker 1:
Now, in terms of the costs, the first Tulsa dog training lesson is 50 cents, but how long does that first lesson take? And then how much money will it cost after that first 50 cent Tulsa dog training lesson?
JT Lawson:
Yeah, so the first lesson is about 45 minutes to an hour. And then after that, I can’t say a specific price without actually seeing your dog and figuring out your goals, because every dog’s different and everyone has different goals. It typically takes anywhere between one and three weeks, and it’s normally anywhere from about 500 to 3000. It just depends on your goals. And then also we’ll price match anyone. So if you go look at other dog trainers and you see that they’re offering the same thing but for less, we will price match that immediately, because we don’t want anyone to miss out because of funds. We also have scholarships available and many different options to work with you on price.
Speaker 1:
And again, just to provide added clarity for anybody out there that’s thinking about hiring you guys, walk us through step one, step two, step three. If people are going to go out there and reach out to you at Make Your Dog Epic to inquire about your board and train services, what’s step one, step two, step three? Just walk us through the steps one more time about what we can expect if we hire Make Your Dog Epic Tulsa Dog Training.
JT Lawson:
Yeah. Well, if you hired us, you would go to makeyourdogepic.com and you would fill out the form or call us, and then we’ll give you a call back and we’ll go over what you’re looking to do and tell you a little bit about us. And then we’re going to schedule that 50 cent first lesson. That’s where me or one of the trainers will come out and we’re going to talk to you more about us. We want to figure out your goals, figure out what issues you’re struggling with. We’ll train your dog in front of you, and then we’re going to go over the different types of training, where we fall. And then we’re going to come up with a specific, tailored package for you. That way we can get your dog to your goals.
And then after that, whether you do one-on-one training or boarding school, you will get one, some money back guarantee, and you’ll get group class forever. Because we want to be there for the rest of the dog’s life. And then after that, step five or eight or whatever we’re on, you live happily ever after with your dog, and if you ever need us, we’ll be there.
Speaker 1:
That’s incredible stuff. And again, that’s the Make Your Dog Epic Board and Train overview from JT Lawson. JT, I’ll give you the final word. For anybody out there who’s thinking about reaching out, thinking about going to makeyourdogepic.com and filling out the form, what say you, sir?
JT Lawson:
Yeah. Well, the biggest thing with Make Your Dog Epic and the boarding schools and the board and trains is a lot of people have the common misconception that they’re a bad place. They don’t want to send their dog away. But meet us for the first lesson for that 50 cents, we’re going to go over a day in your life. And also if you don’t want to do it, we also have other options. That’s why we have the one-on-one training, because a lot of people can’t stay a night away from the dog. And if that’s you, that’s fine. We have different options for you. We have options to fit anyone’s goals and needs.
Speaker 1:
Thank you so much for your time there, and we’ll talk to you in five minutes.
Audio:
Is your dog and furry friend holding you hostage?
Will your dog not stop pulling on its leash and eating your sausage? Who wrote that?
Well, I don’t mean to brag, but I actually wrote it and-
Wow.
… it rhymes. People dig it, like a dog. You get it?
Okay, so I’m just going to keep reading. Will your dog not stop jumping on you or pooping in your house like you’re on the set of Jumanji or living in a zoo?
It only took me two weeks to write that line while sitting at the base of a waterfall while gazing upon my epic dog. The dog that once held me hostage was now my best friend.
It’s so good.
The dog that would never listen was now all ears.
It’s so good. I just want to cry.

Wow.
Man, Carl. You are a talented vocal artist.
Well, well, I…
Just, you can sense your… I can feel the passion. It’s contagious.
Well, my friend, I am passionate about the product. I once went 60 days without sleeping.
Really?
My wife’s wedding dress got eaten and my neighbor Pam was bitten by my dog.
Oh man.
My quality of life was at an all-time low. I actually didn’t invite people over to my home for months because of the new dog. And I always smelled like urine.
You do still smell a little bit like dog urine, just a little.
That’s why I made my dog epic. I was hostage, and that’s where the passion comes from. You’ve got to believe in your product, and you’ve got to project from the diaphragm.
The diaphragm.
You’ve got to bend your knees.
Bend the knees, bend the knees.
You’ve got to drink ginger.
Drink the ginger.
You’ve got to ingest the apple cider vinegar.
Apple cider, I can do that.
And with a dog bone, you want to chew on the dog bone and before the-
Hard pass. I’m not going to…
… recording so that you can emulate the dog. And you should listen to Atomic Dog.
I can do that.
But you’re not a dog.
Right.
But you want to just chew on the bone, the oversized bone, not the regular size bone. [inaudible 00:10:36].
Hard pass. Not going to chew on the bone.
