JT Lawson:
I’m doing phenomenal. Doing really good.

There’s somebody out there that just reached out to you because, they’re online right now, looking for a dog trainer that they can trust, and they’re just wanting to know what questions should I even be asking if I’m going to go hire a dog trainer? What should the customers be asking if they’re looking for a professional Tulsa dog trainer?
JT Lawson:
So big things they should be asking is do they offer a money back guarantee? Will they be there for the rest of my dog’s life, or are they just going to be like, “Hey, you get what you get and you don’t throw a fit?” And then do they do a consultation or a first lesson? That way you can kind of try it before you buy it. And so that’s the big things you should ask.
And then you should see if they’re qualified, not certified. So certifications don’t really mean anything in the dog training world because everyone just certifies themselves and there’s no governing body over the certifications. So you shouldn’t worry too much about the certifications. You should just figure out do they offer money by guarantee? Do they have lifelong learning options, and will they come out and see my dog and figure out my real issues and make a package specifically tailored for my dog?

And then we’ll tell you what it’ll take to get your dog to your goals. We want to make sure that you actually like us and you trust us and you like our training styles. Make sure we’re a good fit for you before you sign up for training. So that’s kind of a try it before you buy it thing.

Now, if I’m looking at the competition right now, if I’m out there looking at other dog trainers, walk me through the minefield of the different sales techniques that I may run into if I’m looking at other dog trainers, because again, the way you do it, your first lesson is 50 cents, and then you have different packages package A, package B, package C. You also have scholarships to make it affordable for everybody. But what kind of sales gimmicks or tricks are common in the Tulsa dog training space?
JT Lawson:
So in the Tulsa dog training space, there’s a lot of, I call them car salesy moves dog trainers use. They have super hard closes. It’s like some of them use the philosophy kind of like the telemarketer that is not allowed to hang up before the customer does. So if you call someone and they never hang up, you just have to stay on the phone. And if you hang up first, then you’re fired, basically. That’s kind of how it is with some of these dog trainers that are doing sales, is they’re told they cannot leave that first lesson unless the customer either says no or yes, and it has to be an obvious no or yes. So there’s no, “Hey, I got to think about it. Hey, I got to do this,” or whatever.
And then with us, we have scholarship options, and we will find a package that fits right for you that’s in your budget. Where with them it’s kind of like the price is the price. And then they guilt trip you into being like, “I know it’s $8,000, but what would you say your dog’s life is worth? Because if your dog doesn’t listen, then it’s going to get hit by a car. So is your dog worth $8,000 to you?” And they do these guilt trips and it’s super gross and this whole car salesy thing, and that’s not what we do at all.

And you’ve seen this, this is a real thing. You’re not just blowing smoke here. This is actual a sales technique you’ve witnessed?
JT Lawson:
Yeah, I’ve witnessed, I won’t name names, but I’ve witnessed these techniques from trainers in Tulsa.

Oh, come on. Now, is there any other jackassery that our listeners need to be looking out for? Because again, people are looking for a Tulsa dog training service that they can trust.
