How the Make Your Dog Epic Franchise Training Method Was Crafted
The Make Your Dog Epic franchise uses a positive reinforcement-based training methodology. This is a reward-based training method that rewards desired behavior encouraging the dog to do more of that specific behavior. The Make Your Dog Epic team traveled all of the U.S. to learn from some of the best dog trainers in the country. They learned from people like Bryan Renfro, Tim Smith, Joel Silverman, and others! They wanted to create a training program that was not like all of the other training programs. Unfortunately, there are a lot of training facilities out there that will do whatever it takes to gain obedience from a dog. The Make Your Dog Epic motto is “obedience, but never at the expense of personality”. They can treat all kinds of issues in dogs and can even solve 98% of these issues in as little as one to three weeks. As an owner, you will be learning all of these outstanding training techniques! You will also be able to attend different training classes and conferences to help you grow in your dog training abilities and skills!
Potty Training Techniques | Dog Training Franchise
On the Make Your Dog Epic website you will find a 12-step process for potty training.
Start Early:
- Start your day by taking your dog out first thing in the morning. Most dogs can only hold their pee for up to 7 hours, so taking them out first thing will help set them up for success.
- Let your dog choose their own spot. They will mark this spot and make it their designated potty spot. It’ll be easier to get them to go when you take them to this spot each time.
- Let your dog explore when picking a spot. Don’t try and pick the spot for them!
- Praise your dog every time they use that potty spot. You can do this through treats, cuddles, or even toys!
Creating A Routine:
- After your dog has used their designated spot, bring them back indoors. This helps create the pattern of going outside when they need to potty.
- Expect your dog to need to potty 20 minutes after eating and drinking. This will help you take them out more frequently, preventing accidents in the house.
- Always take your dog to the designated potty spot.
Using Commands and Reinforcement:
- Choose a specific command such as “Go potty” or “Do your business” so that your dog can correlate the command to an action.
- Repeat this command every time you take them to potty.
- Reward your puppy for the desired behavior.
Consistency and Repetition:
- Take them out to go potty regularly.
- Stick to a consistent routine.
Potty training can take up to six months depending on the size and the breed of the dog.
Potty Training Misconceptions
Here are a few misconceptions about potty training listed on the Make Your Dog Epic website. https://makeyourdogepic.com/potty-training/
- Punishment: Punishing your dog can be counterproductive and confusing for your dog. It is best to use positive reinforcement instead.
- Rubbing Their Nose in It: This method can cause fear and anxiety in the dog leaving them even more confused about what you desire for them to do.
- Using Potty Pads Inside: Potty pads can cause mixed signals for the dog. It is best to train them to go potty outside.
- Giving Up Too Soon: Don’t give up on your dog if they aren’t getting it at first. Every dog is different and depending on the size and breed the time can vary.
